Missing crashes
Arseny:
I keep encountering a very annoying bug while playing “Missing” – sometimes during screen changes the game crashes to desktop with the flowing message:
missing.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
AppName: missing.exe
AppVer: 0.0.0.0
ModName: midimap.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180
Offset: 00002237
Can anyone please help?

As a the developer of the game, I'm ashamed to say that I don't know what the problem is. The game was made with a game creation engine that is taylored more for RPGs than anything. The engine that I'm using is not perfect, in fact, it's rather buggy and unstable. The engine seems to hate modern computers...
I can't really offer any solution for your problems, as I don't know how the engine works (I didn't develop the engine.) I'm truly sorry for this. It really hurts when people reported a fatal bug that prevents them from enjoying the game and all I can do is tell them "I'm sorry, but I don't know what the problem is and I can't help you." :(
Again, I'm really sorry for the annoyance. As for me, lesson learned... don't use an unstabile engine. I will be using GM for my next game, which while not without flaws, is a very stable engine.

Thanks for the reply. It is really shame that there is no obvious solution to the problem.
What engine was used in the game? May be is it possible to contact the engine developers?
Also, maybe is it possible to enable the save game option in all rooms – that sure would help (right now I can’t get trough the day three, but the crash always occur in different places).

The engine used for the game is called OHRRPGCE.
I could try asking the developer about this for you, but I doubt it would be fruitful. There have been more than 10+ new builds of the engine since I last used it. The problem with the engine was they have 6 people working on it and they are usually unaware of what the others are doing. And this usually leads to lots of problems. Last time I checked, the newer build couldn't even run Missing anymore...
Initially, you can save the game anytime you want, but I removed it because it would become a problem in the third day. The game executes the rain command everytime you exit your room. The engine does not support WAV playback via rooms, so I have to execute it via a script. If you happen to save outside your room in day 3 and reload from your save... the rainy sfx wouldn't play. That's the only reason why I removed the save at all time function.
From what I can gather, midimap.dll is most likely a MIDI playback function. There seems to be a conflict with your soundcard or something. How exactly, I'm not sure.
I know this is probably a farfetched idea but... maybe the game wouldn't crash as often if you turn on the compability mode to win95/98. I mean, since the engine is so unfriendly towards newer computers... maybe it would work better if you turn on the win95/98 compability mode.

Never mind, I've just finished the game on the different computer. Excellent game – reminded me of such classics like Elvira and Waxworks. The final revelation (with the nametag) was also good. :)
By the way, is there only one ending? No hidden, alternative happy ending? ::)
